England trip 4L 5AT – a long and winding road
From the 2nd to the 14th of June 2026, the 4L and 5AT classes of the GvP had the opportunity to travel through the South and Southwest of England.
Staying in youth hostels in Streatley, Bath, Penzance, Beer (the place, not the drink), and Medway the students got to know a lot about English culture and its amazing countryside.
Sure, we visited some famous cathedrals (which were not totally interesting for everyone), where we got a lot of historical and architectural information from our guide Dr. UIrike Moser (thanks a lot, Ulli!!!), but we also spent a lot of time strolling through beautiful cities like Oxford, Bath, Exeter, Brighton or Canterbury and had the chance to look at places like the Roman Baths, Stonehenge, St. Michael´s Mount, Lizard Point, Land´s End or the Minack Theatre, with its stage situated on top of outstanding cliffs in Cornwall.
The most stressful day was our sightseeing trip to London, where we walked for around 20kms to see all the most important tourist attractions in one day.
In juxtaposition to that exhausting day, we spent 2 relaxing days walking along the cliffs in Cornwall and were again and again surprised by yet another amazing view of the beautiful blue sea and the spectacular waves and shores on our walks.
Overall, after nearly 4000kms on our coach with our great driver Hans from Ratzenböck Travels, we hope that everyone could take something from this roundtrip – be it some, possibly underestimated, input about traditional English culture, some lessons in friendship and being together for quite some time in tight spaces, or the different accents of English the students got to know doing their interviews and having conversations with people in the various places we saw.
One thing is certain: it was a trip to remember for a lifetime.
